G.O.O.S.E (Government Official Operating Search Engine) is a search engine app designed to assist with retrieving information on any government official working currently in the United States. The users’ age ranges from 18 and up with the goal of allowing anyone to be able to access information on their local, state, and federal government anywhere in the country.

Project Duration: August 2025 - October 2025

The problem:

Most search engines provide the most basic information regarding government officials due to it’s board scope.

The goal:

This app is designed to assist with the task of searching for representatives specific to an area or region. This allows users to have all the details needed that other search engines might miss.

My role:

Lead UX Designer

Responsibilities:

Wireframes, lo-fi & hi-fi prototypes, and modifying designs to be responsive

Based on a competitive audit and interviews with local volunteers and professionals in the government, I was able to gather intel on the most vital information users might need to have available when searching for reps in their area.

Reps’ information relative to their location (ie. city, state, district, etc.)

1

Job title and affiliation (in respect to political party)

2

Current events and news related to the reps being searched.

3

Using this information, I’ve created a user journey map to assist with setting up the type of structure a user will need to have for the easiest search experience.

A site map is created to confirm the type of format to use, assisting in demonstrating the best user experience when using the search feature

Accessibility considerations

Adding a feature to have the app/site read off the text to the visually impaired. This would be utilized when the user enters their search into the engine.

1

Highlighting any and all parts of the U.S to ensure no user is missed when attempting to search for their rep. (ie. ZIP code, Area Code, district lines, etc.)

2

Adding an “easy read” feature which would organize the information search and increase the size of the sections with the most text (ie. articles, bios, etc.)

3

Impact:

This app/site will hopefully assist with giving the information needed to make informed decisions when it comes to U.S politics nationwide. Hopefully citizens of the country without access to the same resources will be able to use the app/site to gain the same knowledge about who it is their voting for regardless of social status.

What I’ve learned:

I’ve learned that putting the user first can make a real impact on the world around us. With the internet and social media playing a pivotal role in how we receive and process information, making technology accessible to the masses is more important now more than ever.
